Calculating your Roofing Materials

At FibreGlassDirect, we understand how frustrating it may be to calculate exactly how much materials you may need.

Our Roofing Materials Calculator will give exact material quantities based on the area provided. To get the area of your roof simply multiply the length by width and enter the area in the designated box. The calculator will cover Topcoat, Matting and Resin. We recommend 0.6kg of Topcoat per square metre and 1.5kg of resin per square metre for all fibreglass roofing applications. It is also important to allow an additional 10% of materials to cover any waste, overlaps and bandaging. Nobody wants to be left short on materials in the middle of a job!

If combining all materials is too time consuming we have put together an extensive range of fibreglass roof kits from patch repair sizes (1 square metre) all the way to larger commercial roofs (100 square metres). With a variety of options including tools, matting weights and sizes – we have a kit for every roof. The premium roof kits are supplied with a fire retardant topcoat and flexible resin. The standard roof kits offer a Lloyd’s Approved resin and a standard roofing topcoat. Both offerings will provide a solid, maintenance free finish.

Installing a Fibreglass Roofing System

The layers of fibreglass used in a roofing system are underpinned by timber boards. At FibreGlassDirect we strongly recommend Oriented Strand Board (OSB), particularly OSB3 is used in relation to our products with a thickness of at least 18mm. Once the OSB has been laid, the laminating phase takes place. This involves the chopped strand matting and the resin which gives the roof its rigid structure.

After the resin has cured, the Topcoat is applied which gives the roof its final colour. It is important to note that if an existing flat roof is already in place such as Felt and the fibreglass system is to be used as a replacement, it is important that the existing felt structure is removed prior to the fibreglass installation. The fibreglass materials will not adhere to the felt surface.
